Car Car Tip: Prevent Overheating!

A common cause of breakdowns is overheating, especially during summertime. Your cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled as recommended in your owner's manual. The level, condition, and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically. (A 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water is usually recommended.)

If your car overheats -- or if you are doing regular maintenance at home -- never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled! A professional should check the tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps, and hoses.

Many people ask me, “I want to modify my car! What should I start with”?
Well here is my $0.02....

Keep her stock if you are going to AutoX for the first time. Just get tires only. Work your way up in the stock category and then once you are kickin’ ass go for one or both of the first following groups (some cars may prefer the handling first if they are powerful in stock form):

Let her breathe (in & out) & burn:
High quality ignition parts (wires and plugs basically)
High flow fuel filter if available
Air intake system, filter, and intake plenum
Full exhaust starting with car-back and then work your way up to the headers if you can not do it all at once.

Handling:
Sway bars (adjustable if you can spar the extra $$
Sport class springs
Adjustable or street quality dampers

Later on after you move up in classes, max out the ability of you intake and exhaust:
Have a complete exhaust system from header to tail before:
Upgrade fuel injectors
Stand alone fuel pump
Air\fuel computer and tuning to maximize the breathing and fuel entry

Now your ride can slam in the air, fuel and push it all out effectively. Do the same if you just want a fun car to drive.
Slap on a stock N2O kit for fun or go for a turbo at low boost. Typically people only go for a bigger N2O kit or crank up the boost if you upgrade the crank and various other internal depending on the car.
